When I first started setting up this blog sometime last summer, I wasn’t sure what it would be used for, since I’ve never been a very proficient writer (partly due to the time-consumption factor—it took me 25-40 hours to write an English paper when I started college). But, at the same time, sometimes it’s nice to have things in writing and I thought a blog might be a good way to share some experiences when I go overseas as a missionary.
Currently I’m planning to go to the mountains of northern Thailand for my initial missionary nurse experience—likely launching by this fall (now that I’m working as a new RN and will be taking some additional training courses this spring and/or summer)!
Although I obtained my Private Pilot License when I was 17 and did some more flying in 2004 (with the goal of missionary aviation), I’m waiting to see how God leads in continuing my nursing practice overseas before deciding to pursue the rest of my costly flight training. (Although I’d like to complete a biennial flight review this spring, since I haven’t flown in years.)
A commitment to spend my life in foreign mission work has been the main drive of my life ever since I was about 12 years old. While it’s true that we can and should be missionaries in whatever place God has for us, too often many of us come up with excuses for avoiding the primary call that God has planned for us. To help understand some of the rationale behind the drive for foreign missions, please read the Foreign Missions pages that are posted above (web-links in the upper right column of this home page).
The cry comes from far-off countries, "Come over and help us." These are not so easily reached, and not so ready for the harvest, as are the fields more nearly within our sight; but they must not be neglected. . . . {CET 221.2}
Our brethren have not discerned that in helping to advance the work in foreign fields, they would be helping the work at home. That which is given to start the work in one field, will result in strengthening the work in other places... {CET 221.3}
God calls for one hundred missionaries where there is now one. These are to go forth to foreign countries.--14MR 164. {PaM 32.3}
Jesus is coming soon! But in the meantime, Christ has already shown us by His example what our work is to be. Will we work in cooperation with Christ for the salvation of souls?
